Most students are probably not used to writing as much as they will be expected to in college. It is a good start to tell the students of their "scholar" status, in hopes that they will put on their thinking caps.scoutnell7https://www.blogger.com/profile/15613764269748560293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5659978197964768089.post-34004221484744637522007-04-14T23:02:00.000-07:002007-04-14T23:02:00.000-07:00I like the idea that you should tell your students...I like the idea that you should tell your students that they are scholars, but it seems a little strange to me that we would have to remind them that they are, in fact, scholars. What is it that they think 13 years of elementary, middle and high school were about? However, if you are placed in a situation where your values are tested you mght feel personally atacked as was the "uncomfortable" letter writer. It is easy to for get that you can have different opinions and when you do there is nothing wrong, its just another way to look at something.M.E. I've brought the same assumption up in class when I refer back to high school students entering a new environment that they are unfamiliar with, but we expect so much from them.S00nerfan1https://www.blogger.com/profile/09083015072608883451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5659978197964768089.post-75923775150738598652007-04-05T16:50:00.000-07:002007-04-05T16:50:00.000-07:00Before I've never connected the academic Basic wri...Before I've never connected the academic Basic writing with the home identity infuence, because in China I seldom heard about this issue, so right now I got to know more and more about the importance. And I agree with your point of telling the students they've already been the "scholars" although it's more like a great encouragement than the objective reality."People will become whom that others expect them to become."kuertenccoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01446350037482428306noreply@blogger.com
